The iPad Commercial Apple Doesn’t Want You to See

Apple can be a bit sensitive at times. Apparently they’ve told Newsday to pull a commercial from their website or else they would pull their app from the app store. The video is embedded below (at least until Apple makes Google pull it from YouTube). I guess they don’t like the idea of people smashing their iPad to pieces. I think the video is really funny and actually doesn’t hurt the iPad brand at all, but I’m not Steve Jobs.

Thanks to Consumerist for the story.

If the ad happens to get pulled before you get a chance to see it contact me and I might be able to help you find it using other means.

UPDATE [5:34 PM CDT]: Apparently Newsday asked YouTube to pull the original video for copyright infringement, so I updated the video to another one. Let’s see how long this one stays up.

  1. That’s hilarious. I wouldn’t pull it if I was Apple.. maybe the story is just to get you to go look at the video… that’s what I did.

  2. Love it and yes I agree Chris you would think so ๐Ÿ™‚ But I do know how much you like the ipad when you had a chance to use it

    • Actually, I only used it to play Angry Birds and Talking Tom. For anything else it’s inferior to a laptop. Plus, with my new phone, there’s not a lot the iPad will do noticebly better, since my phone fits in my pocket. I don’t like browsing the web on the iPad because the interface just doesn’t work as well, for me, as a mouse. Plus, it still won’t multi-task, which is a shame because Pandora and Angry Birds would be pretty sweet, especially since the sound is suprisingly good coming from the speaker(s).

Honestly, it just doesn’t serve that great a purpose over a laptop and a good smart phone. As confirmation of this, several Apple fans with iPads have echoed those sentiments in conversation. I do think there are some business applications that might make really good sense, but most people use it in a more general manner. Thankfully, we don’t all have to agree on this. Steve Jobs has created an empire BECAUSE of people that don’t agree with me. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • My iPad multitasks! I had to jailbreak it, though, to make it happen. When iOS4.2 comes out later this year they’re adding multitasking officially, but what’s funny is some productivity type people are actually not looking forward to that. They like how the iPad forces you to focus on one thing only. I’m not of the same opinion.

The people that seem to be enjoying the iPad the most are using it instead of a laptop. They have their main computer at home or the office and use the iPad on the go. I actually prefer the iPad’s interface for simple browsing and everyday stuff, but not so much when I need to type. I heard Leo Laporte (from This Week in Tech) say that the iPad is a great content consumption device, but not a good content creation device. I agree with that.
